(MATH 305) Mathematics for Elementary Teachers
The course is designed to teach a perspective elementary teacher the understanding of mathematics needed to teach in grades K-6. The focus will be on the mathematics not on methods since all pre-service elementary teachers will take a separate methods course as part of their program. Although learning the appropriate mathematics is the primary objective, it is hoped that some of the instructional techniques used in the class model the desired methods for teaching elementary mathematics.
|Credit Hours||3.0 Lecture|
|Prerequisite||MATH 101 or higher|
The course is designed to teach prospective elementary school teachers the understanding of mathematics needed to teach grades K-6. The focus will be on math content not teaching methods. Nevertheless, it is hoped that the instructional techniques used by the professor will model teaching for elementary mathematics. The math department has established eight outcomes for graduating majors. The table below indicates which outcomes will be addressed in Math 305.
