A Message from the President
Aloha and welcome to Brigham Young University–Hawaii. Our mission is to prepare disciples of Jesus Christ who live and lead in Oceania and the Asian Rim. Regardless of where you’re joining BYU–Hawaii from or what you choose to study, I invite you to actively think about and use your time here to prepare to live and lead in the Church and communities throughout Asia and the Pacific.
Your time at BYU–Hawaii is meant to be a capstone experience. One built on a commitment to excellence, purpose, and, most importantly, consecration to the Savior and His gospel. Here, you will cultivate the discipline needed and the ability to balance your family, church, education, work, and social commitments. This type of dedication during university will prepare you for life beyond BYU–Hawaii.
We have high expectations for you and how you’ll use your time here. It may feel overwhelming at times, but we love you and care too much about you to expect anything less than excellence, integrity, and a life full of service. We know you are capable. We invite you to be prayerful as you face new challenges. They will be consecrated for your good, enhance your capacity, and position you for better opportunities in the years to come.
You will become, as President David O. McKay prophesied of our graduates, “men and women whose influence will be felt for good towards the establishment of peace internationally.”
Trust that the Lord has a plan for you, and as you give your best, you will come to see it unfold.
Mahalo nui loa,
John S.K. Kauwe III
