(ACCT 210) Principles of Accounting II

A second course covering principles of financial and managerial accounting. Provides deeper exposure to the accounting cycle and topics such as accounting for inventory, receivables, revenue, long-term assets, liabilities, intangibles and shareholder’s equity. Develop skills in time value of money and other accounting computations. Managerial accounting topics include job costing, activity-based costing, CVP analysis, among others.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply the accounting cycle to analyze and record business transactions.
  2. Prepare and interpret a balance sheet and income statement that include elements that are more advanced than the basic items introduced in ACCT 200.
  3. Employ the time value of money in a financial accounting context.
  4. Use managerial accounting tools, including cost analysis and variance analysis, to support decision-making.
  5. Construct and use basic Excel spreadsheets in an accounting context.
  6. Apply the financial accounting rules that exist in the following areas: a. Revenue recognition b. Inventory c. Long-term assets d. Bonds e. Leases f. Stockholders' equity g. Investment securities.
