Course Learning Outcomes

Upon completing this course, students will be able to:

  1. Apply critical thinking skills within the context of human behavior, aging, and social work with older adults.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the various life stages of older adults, and the major coinciding events of the various stages.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the assumptions, strengths, and limitations of the various theoretical perspectives used to explain human behavior.
  4. Identify ethical issues that arise in working with individuals including how the standpoints of practitioner and client, especially as related to socio-economic status, ethnicity, race, gender, diversity, and sexual identity may affect the client practitioner relationship.
  5. Identify the various forms of discrimination, oppression, and strategies that are used to promote social and economic justice.
