(BIOL 301L) Botany Laboratory

A comparative study of pteridophytes, gymnosperms and angiosperms, integrating form, function and ecology. This course is designed to introduce students to the major lineages of vascular plants, including the ferns, gymnosperms and flowering plants. Students will be introduced to basic plant structure (anatomy and morphology) and diversity, as well as topics in plant evolution.

Credit hours 1.0 lab
Prerequisite BIOL 113
Corequisite BIOL 301
Offered Fall, winter
Programs Biology (BS)

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Plant Structure and Function: Describe components of plant cells, tissues, and organ systems, including their physiological processes like photosynthesis and respiration.
  2. Evolution and Diversity: Analyze the evolutionary history, classification, and phylogenetic relationships ofmajor plant lineages.
  3. Reproduction and Development: Explain alternation of generations, life cycles, and development mechanisms across different plant groups.
  4. Ecology and Environment: Analyze how environmental factors impact plant growth, adaptation, and interaction within ecosystems.
