Students will be introduced to social work practice with adults experiencing mental health difficulties and roles that social workers perform in behavioral health care settings.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon completing this course, students will be able to:
- Students will be able to examine history of mental illness and explain stigmas associated with mental health
- Students will be able to explain the etiology of mental illness and describe appropriate treatments
- Students will be able to describe at least two culture-bound syndromes and develop ideas on how to address the health disparities within various cultures
- Students will be able to describe the ethical principles and conflicts in community mental health practice
- Students will be able to explain several common mental illnesses and the related symptoms
