(PSYC 381) Drugs and Behavior

This course examines the use of psychoactive drugs both legal and illegal. The course will first introduce the basic principles of pharmacology and how drugs interact with the nervous system to influence behavior. We will explore in depth the commonly abused drugs classified as stimulants, depressants, and hallucinogens. In addition the drugs used for the major psychiatric illnesses such as schizophrenia, mood disorders, and anxiety disorders will also be covered.
