Selected literatures from the colonial period through the American Renaissance, including early Native American, African-American, and women writers along with Hawthorne, Poe, Emerson, Thoreau, and Melville.

  4. See how those changes still influence our understanding of what “America” means to its citizens and the rest of the world.
