(HIST 202) History of Civilization Since 1500

Major world civilizations from 1500 to the present; emphasize textual analysis and information literacy.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Oral and written communication. As part of the History Program of BYUH, this helps to develop effective communication skills. Prepare to write often and discuss frequently the history we are learning.
  2. Preparation: The university wide expectation is that students study at least six hours per week outside of class for any 3 credit course. A history class requires hours of dedicated reading.
  3. Attendance/engagement: There are thirty-six class days. I expect each student to attend every hour of class, actively learning about the past.
  4. Question and answer (Q&A) discussions in class, based on the engaging essays in the book, The World That Trade Created.
  5. Testing: A mid-term exam and a final exam
