(HIST 201) History of Civilization to 1500

Course Learning Outcomes

1. Research Paper - Students will research their own history paper. The specific topic can be from any History 201 place or time (World History to 1500). The paper must be at least ten pages ( double-space, 12 pt. font) with references (footnotes preferred). Prior to final submission must submit a Research Prospectus and a First Draft.
2. Primary Sources Analyses - Choosing at least five primary source documents or artifacts from the class materials, students will submit an analysis of the source addressing questions of who, what, where, when but most especially why was and why is the source significant.
3. "Wow! That's Interesting" Assignments - From the assigned Wikipedia entries, each student must explain why an entry made them think "Wow!" or " That makes sense, now!" If the explanation is presented orally during the Zoom meeting, please take 2 or 3 minutes. If unable to attend the Zoom meeting, upload a written explanation no longer than 150 words. Students will have at least 10 opportunities to share their thoughts about the reading materials assigned for that specific day. Opportunities to share will be announced a day before the Zoom meeting begins.
4. Exams: The mid-term and final exams will include the reading material and student research.
