(THEA 361) Directing

Directing theories and procedures culminating in direction of a 10-minute play, or one-act play by each student. Introduction to directing technique and practice from play selection to play production.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Develop the ability to analyze text for dramatic action.
  2. Incorporate experience, various art forms, current techniques into analyzing text.
  3. Be able to articulate process and artistic vision.
  4. Be able to communicate effectively and offer insight, compassion, concise direction, constructive criticism to actors and designers.
  5. Establish creative solutions to rehearsal challenges.
  6. Develop an awareness of the importance of art to a culture and society.
  7. Virtually construct a one act or 10-minute play directing book.
  8. Apply the basics of composition, blocking, actor coaching, and other skills needed for the production of a play.
