(BIOL 113) Biology II - Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology

An introductory course which covers mechanisms of evolution, biological diversity, plant physiology, animal physiology, and ecology. Required of all biology majors.

Course Learning Outcomes

1. Understand how natural selection can cause evolutionary change.
2. Differentiate between the different mechanisms of speciation.
3. Construct and interpret phylogenetic trees.
4. Describe the major evolutionary transitions of plants and animals.
5. Demonstrate the function of the major body systems of animals.
6. Relate animal behaviors to evolutionary and ecological factors.
7. Compare the major biospheres and ecological principles that maintain them.
8. Compare different population growth models and life-history trade-offs.
9. Describe the major threats to the conservation of natural resources, plants, and wildlife.
10. Evaluate the role of environmental stewardship in the Gospel.
