(PAIS 105) Introduction to Pacific Studies
The course introduces students to Oceania, its people and cultures. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the course provides background information on the origin of the people of Oceania, history, geography, colonization, politics, and Christianization. The main foci of the course include values, norms, and cultural practices as well as touching on languages, dances, food, and "the Pacific way" of doing things. The main area of study is Eastern Oceania covering Fiji and Rotuma, Tonga, Samoa, Aotearoa, and Tahiti.
