The history of Western art music with emphasis on analysis and the interconnection of music with religion, philosophy, and economics from 1750 to 1900.
Performances of excerpts from opera and musical theatre including scenes, arias, song, duets, and ensemble numbers. Students participate in the creation of the theme and selection of the numbers and work to be presented.
Explores the drumming traditions of Tahiti, the Cook Islands and elsewhere in the Pacific. No previous drumming experience required, but a strong practice ethic is expected. No audition required.
Off-campus service learning. Activities related to the major and employment will be approved. Prior approval is necessary, a program coordinated by a faculty member and an on-site supervisor.
This course is designed to familiarize string majors with the technique and traditions of orchestral literature and performance.
