The study of international and mass communication systems in modernity including the complexities and problems of mediated communication between cultures and across various boundaries.

Upon completing this course, students will be able to:
- Identify key traditions and forces that affect, create, and alter cultures through media and technology.
- Describe the roles of modernity, postmodernity, science, narrative, religion, war, and the mass-mediated distribution means of cultural products.
