## Course Learning Outcomes

Deals with sets, the real number system, graphs, algebraic manipulations, linear and quadratic equations, systems of equations, and word problems. Approximately equivalent to 2nd-year high school algebra. Course goals (gain a good understanding of the following concepts):

- Properties of real numbers; operations on real numbers; fractions; order of operations.
- Linear equations and inequalities in one variable; applications.
- Linear equations in two variables.
- Systems of linear equations and applications in two variables.
- Exponents and polynomials: add, subtract, multiply, divide.
- Factoring of polynomials rational expressions—add, subtract, multiply, divide; variation [applications].
- Roots, radical expressions: add, subtract, multiply, divide; rational exponents.
- Quadratic equations: the square root property; the Quadratic Formula.
